This buckle belongs because Aguilar’s best figural forms are rare, witty, and highly sculptural. The armadillo subject is especially effective: the animal’s armored structure naturally lends itself to silver articulation and surface relief. As a belt buckle, the piece becomes a small silver sculpture with practical function. It would be a strong museum object for explaining Taxco’s ability to move between utility, humor, and modern form.
