The taller was known for combining metal with inlaid mother-of-pearl, the experimental approach Morrill records in its circle (Morrill, p. 206). The owl belongs to the bird motifs the workshop favored.
Los Castillo, founded in Taxco in 1939, was among the talleres grandes whose scale supported this production (Stromberg, p. 41). Mother-of-pearl owl pitchers surface only occasionally.
