A parrot carried across a silverplate plate, this piece belongs to the bird imagery Los Castillo drew from the natural world (Morrill, p. 92), part of the decorative tableware made alongside the firm's jewelry.
Worked in plain silverplate, the plate lets the metal alone render the parrot, without inlay or applied color. Antonio Castillo founded the Taxco workshop in 1939, and the firm built its standing on improving its designs rather than repeating them (Morrill, p. 91).
Parrot plates of this kind appear from time to time, and the example documents the workshop's figural tableware in plain metal.
