A 'Floral' necklace draws on a source Margot van Voorhies Carr returned to throughout her life. Those who traveled with her recalled that she loved flowers and was never without a magnifying glass, stopping the car to study an unusual flowering plant by the roadside (Morrill, p. 168), and that close attention fed directly into her designs.
Worked in sterling silver with enamel, the necklace sits within the line on which Margot built her name. Champlevé enamel-on-silver had originated at Los Castillo with Reveriano Castillo and Miguel Melendez, and Margot perfected it into one of her major lines (Morrill, p. 166).
She designed everything her workshop made, documenting the dies, enamel colors, and finishing for each model (Morrill, p. 168), so a named floral design was a defined part of her catalog.
