Curatorial note

Worked in silver and copper, this pyramid cuff carries the same repeated geometric form Spratling used across his first-period bracelets, here in a two-metal treatment that sets warm copper against cool silver. The pyramid band is a pure architectural motif, and the contrast of metals gives the design its color and its play of surface.

The catalog history of this design number tells its own story. The same form was issued in silver and gold in the 1938 and 1942 wholesale catalogs, then described as "silver and bronze" in the 1944, 1944-45, and December 1945 catalogs, and it was also produced in all silver. That sequence shows Spratling's workshop reworking one design across materials and renaming its second metal over the years.

The reuse of a single design number across these variations is part of how Spratling's first-period production is read and dated today. Two-metal cuffs from this group come to market only occasionally, and matching an example to its catalog appearances is part of placing it correctly.
