This covered creamer, topped by a silver ball on a hinged cover, belongs to the Jaguar coffee and tea service - though it carries the round finial rather than the small jaguar that appears on the service's coffee and tea pots. Spratling's original catalog photographs show the sugar and creamer with only these round finials, a documented inconsistency within the set itself.
The ebony fittings against silver follow the workshop's practice of pairing the metal with dense, dark natural materials, the contrast Morrill associates with Spratling's affinity for Puiforcat's combining of rosewood and silver (p. 224).
The creamer is recorded in Cederwall and Riney's Spratling Silver, Centennial Edition. As part of a named service, it is best understood within that ensemble.
