Design 5268 bracelet

Design 5268 sits within the champlevé enamel-on-sterling tradition that Margot de Taxco made her own. As Morrill documents (1994, p. 166), it was at the Los Castillo workshop that Reveriano Castillo and Miguel Meléndez initiated the champlevé technique on silver — and Margot who perfected and developed it into one of her major lines after establishing her own taller. Her bracelets in that tradition are among the pieces Morrill describes as "glittering displays of color, texture, and technical perfection."

Each number in Margot's inventory system identifies a distinct design, and Morrill notes that higher numbers generally indicate later work in her career (1994, pdf p. 15). Design 5268 thus belongs to the later, fully codified phase of her output — when the production book she maintained, specifying die counts, color choices, and finishing steps for each numbered design, had long set the standard for every piece that left her studio (Morrill, 1994, p. 168). That system of meticulous documentation is what gives a numbered Margot piece its particular authority.
