A snake banded around the wrist is among the figural forms Margot de Taxco's enamel line handled with particular ease: a sinuous, segmented body whose links lend themselves to panel-by-panel champlevé enameling, each cell carrying its own field of color. Her taste for such flexing, curling forms is documented across her output (Morrill, p. 168).
The champlevé enamel-on-silver technique was developed at Los Castillo by Reveriano Castillo and Miguel Melendez and perfected by Margot, who turned it into one of her major lines of jewelry (Morrill, p. 166). She designed everything her company made and worked from a written book of per-piece instructions specifying dies, color choices, and assembly, her drawings serving as templates for the enamelers (Morrill, p. 168).
Well-preserved examples carry the saturated color and precise silverwork that defined her enamel jewelry.
