Curatorial note

Built from a series of pyramid forms running around the wrist, this all-silver cuff is one of the geometric statements of Spratling's first design period, when the Taxco workshop was defining the vocabulary that would carry Mexican modern silver. The pyramid is a pure architectural shape, and repeated across a cuff it produces a band of light and shadow that needs no applied ornament.

The same pyramid design was executed in other material combinations, including bronze and silver as well as gold and silver, so the all-silver version is one option within a family built on a single structural idea. That practice of reworking one design across materials is characteristic of how Spratling's workshop operated.

The restraint of the all-silver treatment lets the geometry carry the piece, with the polished metal alone modeling each facet. First-period cuffs of this clarity come to market only occasionally and reward the collector attentive to the underlying form.
