Curatorial note

A plain silver disc, presented without stone or applied ornament, is the whole of each earring: the form is reduced to a single clean circle, modern in its restraint and characteristic of the workshop's later geometric production. The disc reads as pure shape, the quality of the silver and the handwork carrying it.

The design dates to Spratling's later production. Per the existing record the style was made only between 1958 and 1967, with a wholesale price of $6.00 in 1958-59 rising to $7.20 by 1967, and a matching necklace was designed; the earrings have since been reissued. The plain disc reflects the cleaner, more modern idiom of the workshop's final decade.

Disc earrings are among the most wearable of the later designs and, having been reissued, remain a recognizable example of the workshop's mid-century geometry.
