Cufflinks of plain silver discs are the kind of restrained, everyday Spratling design that depended entirely on proportion and the quality of the polish. There is no figure and no stone, only two clean discs, and the form proved adaptable: the same design was used for buttons in two sizes.
The pieces date from the first design period, 1931 to 1946, the founding years of Spratling's Las Delicias taller in Taxco. The disc was one of the workshop's fundamental shapes, used here at its most pared-down.
A single form serving as both cufflinks and buttons reflects the modular thinking of the early workshop, and plain disc pieces remain a quietly collectible part of the output.
