Curatorial note

A silver cuff banded by three striated lines across the center, with three half-and-half discs of azur malachite and silver set beneath, is Spratling building a bracelet from bold geometry and a single stone. He called it a slip-on heavy forged azurite half-discs bracelet, the maker's own name fixing both its construction and its motif.

The forged cuff form is heavy and direct, descending from the substantial bracelets his workshop made from its earliest years, while the half-disc inlays of azur malachite against silver create a rhythm of color and metal across the band. Spratling also made the design with obsidian in place of the malachite, evidence of a model he thought worth realizing in more than one stone. It is recorded in Goddard's Spratling Silver field guide.

Forged cuffs with half-disc stone inlays from the Third Period come to market only occasionally, and the maker's own description anchors the identification.
