Curatorial note

A short tin candlestick rising on three looped feet of bent tin bands, this is an object from the humble end of Spratling's production, where the workshop turned everyday metal into simple, well-proportioned form. Tin work was part of Las Delicias from early on: Spratling employed the tinsmith Don Isidro Jejia, who directed assistants in producing candlesticks, picture and mirror frames, and other objects in tin to Spratling's simple designs (Morrill, p. 36).

The looped-band feet are the design's one flourish, lifting the piece and giving the tin a light, almost drawn quality. It belongs to the same tinwork tradition that Frances Toor noted being produced in the workshop alongside the silver.

With no recorded reference and a common material, the candlestick is valued for its workshop origin and its condition rather than for documented standing in the literature.
