A bangle built from a concave band of hammered silver, edged top and bottom with a twisted silver-and-bronze rope, shows Spratling's interest in surface and texture: the hammered concave center catches light, and the rope borders frame it. His own catalogues from 1942 onward listed the rope as copper rather than bronze, a small discrepancy collectors note.
Hammering, the marking of silver under the tool, and rope-twist borders both belong to the hand techniques Spratling's workshop practiced (Morrill, p. 15). The piece dates to the First Design Period (1931-1946).
