Ovalado Lidded Sugar Bowl

This lidded oval sugar bowl carries the Ovalado pattern, its rosewood handles set against the silver body, a serving piece from the First Design Period of 1931 to 1946. The oval form gives the pattern its name and its quiet, elongated profile.

The rosewood handle against silver is the recurrent Spratling pairing, here resolved on a covered serving form. Lidded hollowware of this kind sat at the center of the coordinated services he built around the wood-and-silver contrast.
