Carved Link Bracelet

Carved silver links, separated by links bearing one or two applied half-balls and closed by a pin clasp, make up this bracelet, which Spratling called "Vindobonesis." The alternation of carved and beaded links gives the band its rhythm, the applied half-balls breaking the surface between the worked elements.

The bracelet dates to the First Design Period and was offered in the Fall 1944 Montgomery Ward catalogue, the years Spratling silver reached a national American audience through the Ward catalogues (Morrill, p. 53). It is also recorded with the slightly later WS print-circle hallmark accompanied by the Spratling Silver mark, a useful marker for dating examples.

Recorded in the Morrill and Berk survey and in the Fall 1944 Montgomery Ward catalogue, the bracelet is a well-documented example of the workshop's named First Period link designs.
