Frog Earrings

A pair of frogs cast in silver, these earrings sit within the menagerie of small Mexican creatures Spratling rendered as jewelry. The frog was a motif he carried across forms and materials.

He also made frog earrings in amethyst and a bracelet of silver and amethyst frogs, the workshop's habit of offering one design in more than one material. Cast in the 980 silver Spratling preferred for its softer patina (Morrill, Mexican Silver, 1994, p. 36), the frogs read as compact, tactile little forms.
