Bird-Handled Pitcher with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay

Built around a bird inlaid with mother-of-pearl, this silverplate pitcher with stone accents is figural holloware in the Los Castillo manner, where a vessel doubles as a sculpted object. The shell catches light against the metal, the workshop's instinct for material contrast applied to a serving piece.

Los Castillo was known for combining metal with inlaid materials, the experimental approach Morrill records in its circle (Morrill, p. 206). The bird recurs across the taller's output as a favored motif.

The workshop, founded in 1939, grew into one of Taxco's talleres grandes with the capacity for ambitious decorative production (Stromberg, p. 41).
