Cross

A cross is among the most fitting forms for MATL, the workshop founded by Matilde Poulat, whose silver drew openly on Mexican folk and devotional traditions. Where much of the Taxco school pursued a modernist line, MATL stayed ornamental and rooted in popular religious and decorative imagery, and the cross sits squarely in that vocabulary.

Worked in silver, the piece belongs to the dense, repoussé-driven style that defines the workshop's output. The form gives the MATL hand a familiar subject to elaborate.

The devotional form makes this an emblematic example of what the workshop is known for.
