Necklace of Asymmetrical Silver Panels with Moonstone Cabochons

Ten square stylized links, each inset with an oval moonstone cabochon, form this sterling collar, a sequence of geometric silver units carrying stones that glow rather than blaze. The design is documented in Gobi Stromberg's Silver Seduction (p. 158, plate 225) and was illustrated in that volume by the Fowler Museum, placing it firmly in the literature on Antonio Pineda.

The collar shows Pineda's modernism at its most systematic, repeating a clean geometric module across the neck. He was, in Stromberg's account, a key figure in the silver design forged in Taxco between the 1930s and 1970s, turning an innovative approach to metalwork into bodily adornment (Stromberg, p. 15). A collar of squared links and moonstone cabochons is that disciplined sensibility worn at the throat.

The hallmarks confirm the maker: the crown mark for Antonio Pineda, an eagle mark, Sterling, and a Taxco stamp, the standard components Stromberg sets out for his work (p. 81). Production followed the taller model in which Pineda conceived designs and master smiths executed them in silver.
