Antonio Pineda

Antonio Pineda was Taxco's great modernist of refinement: a designer and silversmith whose work pushed Mexican silver toward technical perfection and architectural clarity. Born in Taxco in 1919, he trained within William Spratling's orbit, worked with Valentin Vidaurreta, and opened his own taller in 1939. His mature work is spare, geometric, and ingeniously engineered, known for shadow-box stone settings, complex clasps, and hollow construction, usually in .970 silver. By the 1950s he had major international recognition, including representation through Gump's of San Francisco.
