Square Silver Cuff Links with Incised Lines Dividing Each

Each square link is scored into quarters by incised lines, the simple division giving these cuff links a crisp four-part geometry across the face. The scoring is the whole of the decoration, a single engraved cross turning a plain square into a worked surface.

The design was clearly a workshop favorite, since the existing record notes the same quartered-square motif was used for buttons, earrings, and a bracelet, a single geometric idea carried across a small family of objects. That practice of extending one form across many object types is characteristic of how the Taxco workshop built its catalog.

The cuff links belong to the First Design Period, 1931 to 1946, and remain a clean example of the geometric, stone-free strain of the early production.
