Flower Earrings

Silver flowers form these earrings, the blossom rendered entirely in metal rather than carved from stone: the design closely echoes the carved-amethyst flowers Spratling used elsewhere, here translated into an all-silver version. The floral subject was one the workshop returned to across earrings, pins, and a bracelet.

Per the existing record the earrings appear in the Spratling catalogs from 1942 to 1945, placing them in the First Design Period, and their kinship to the amethyst-flower designs shows how the workshop worked a single motif across both stone and plain metal.

Silver flower earrings are among the more wearable of the early designs and remain accessible to collectors of the workshop's naturalistic jewelry.
