Flower Bud Cuff Links

A stylized flower bud with a silver ball at its center gives these cuff links their motif, joined to a plain silver button by a length of silver chain. The same bud design was used for buttons, so the cuff links are one expression of a motif worked across the studio's small accessories.

The stylized bud is the kind of abstracted natural form Spratling favored, legible as a flower yet reduced to a clean silver figure with the center ball as its focus. The chain-and-button construction is a standard cuff-link mechanism, leaving the bud as the design's whole interest.

As first-period silver cuff links built on a motif shared with the workshop's buttons, they belong to the menswear line where a single resolved figure carried across a family of pieces.
