Curatorial note

A footed liqueur cup, this is the more common of two versions sharing a single style number, distinguished by a vertical row of three applied discs on each third of the cup; the rarer version carries only one disc per third. The applied disc was a Spratling holloware signature, and here it organizes the surface into a clear rhythm around the body.

The design was included in The World of William Spratling, the museum exhibit that toured the United States in 1965, placing it among the pieces chosen to represent the workshop to an American public.

The footed cup is small but considered, the discs lifting an otherwise plain vessel. That two versions share a style number gives collectors a specific detail to look for, the count of discs marking the more common example from the rarer.
