Seen in profile and studded with silver beads, a conch or snail gives these earrings their form, a small piece of Mexico's natural world rendered in silver.
The shell is treated in the workshop's flattened, stylized manner, where Morrill notes the pattern of a form mattered more than literal detail (Morrill, p. 73). The applied beads, each formed from melted wire (Morrill, p. 36), trace the spiral of the shell and give the surface its texture.
The earrings date to the First Design Period, 1931 to 1946.
