Curatorial note

Spratling called this the "Collar Gola," a croissant-design necklace whose three-dimensional effect comes from both the wrapped twisted bands and the contrast of silver against vermeil. It is recorded in both Penny C. Morrill's Maestros de Plata and Phyllis M. Goddard's Spratling Silver field guide, and belongs to the post-1967 production that continued the design after the maker's death.

The croissant motif recurs across Spratling's later work; he used the same design for other necklaces and for buckles, treating a strong sculptural form as a template. The pairing of silver with gold-washed vermeil gives the wrapped bands their depth and a two-tone richness.

That the design carried into post-1967 production reflects its durability as a Spratling form, and a documented Collar Gola necklace is collected as an example of one of the workshop's recognizable later motifs.
