Necklace of Teardrop Links

A necklace of silver teardrop links, this is Spratling working in his preferred flexible idiom, the repeated drop form giving the band a soft, continuous flow rather than a hard geometric one. The teardrop is a simple unit, and the design's success lies in the rhythm of its repetition.

Matching earrings were also made, marking the necklace as part of a coordinated set. From the First Design Period, 1931 to 1946, it was worked in 980 silver under the joined "WS" mark Spratling adapted from his horse brand (Morrill, p. 39).
