Crowned Pyramid Bracelet

Spratling called this square-link bracelet with its looped "fringe" the "crowned pyramid," and the name fixes the design: a row of pyramid-topped square links edged with hanging loops, drawn from the abstracted pre-Columbian geometry of his earliest period (Morrill, pdf p. 39). A ring was designed on the same motif, so it anchored a small suite.

The motif also crossed into mass production. Spratling designed a very similar bracelet for the New York firm Silson to make in silver plate, patented on December 31, 1940, part of the wave of Silson patents on Spratling designs registered around 1940-41 (Morrill, p. 257). The plated Silson version and the sterling original are distinct objects.

The bracelet is recorded in Morrill's Maestros de Plata and in Goddard's field guide. The sterling has been reissued with the hallmark TS-24, so a First Period original is identified by an early mark against both the Silson plate and the later reissue.
