A heavy silver link chain bracelet reduces Spratling's design to weight and rhythm: substantial links repeating into a band, the appeal lying in the gauge of the metal and the run of the chain rather than in any motif. It belongs to his First Design Period, when the boldness of plain, heavy silver was itself the statement.
The bracelet is recorded in Morrill and Berk's Mexican Silver and in Silver Jewelry Designs. It has been reissued, so a period original is identified by its early hallmark and the character of the handwork against the later production.
