Silver Bar Rosewood Servers

Rosewood handles finished with a silver bar and a bead at the neck give these salad servers their quiet articulation, the wood carrying the working surface and the silver reserved for the junction. The pair was offered in the Montgomery Ward Christmas Book of 1943, placing it in the workshop's First Design Period.

The pairing of native hardwood with silver was a hallmark of Spratling's table service, and such servers reached a national American audience through the Ward catalogues in the years Spratling silver was distributed by the mail-order house (Morrill, p. 53).

Recorded in the Cederwall and Riney Spratling Silver volume and in the 1943 Montgomery Ward catalogue, the servers are a documented example of the workshop's affordable wartime tableware.
