A linked silver necklace set with turquoise, amethyst, and coral carries the Matl workshop's full polychrome palette in an articulated, flexible form. The link construction distributes the three stones along the length of the piece across the shop's dense, baroque metalwork.
The carving and setting of colored stones was a defining Matl craft; Ricardo Salas was noted for perfecting the cutting of coral, turquoise, and other materials used in the jewelry (Morrill, p. 216). A link format lets all three stones repeat across the necklace rather than concentrating in a single pendant.
Matilde Poulat introduced the "Matl" mark in 1934 as part of the post-Revolution turn toward a Mexican aesthetic rooted in Pre-Conquest and pueblo sources (Morrill, p. 216). Link necklaces with this full palette appear with some regularity within the workshop's colored-stone output.
