Built around inlaid turquoise and amethyst, this silver ring carries the Matl workshop's signature pairing of worked metal and color into a small, wearable form. That pairing is rooted in Matilde Poulat's break from her early painting training at the San Carlos Academy and her embrace of the post-Revolution Mexican aesthetic that looked to Pre-Conquest and pueblo art (Morrill, p. 216).
The stones reflect the taller's hand craft. Ricardo Salas, who collaborated so closely with his aunt that their designs cannot easily be told apart, was trained to carve and set turquoise, coral, and other stones for the firm (Morrill, p. 216).
