This moonstone ring captures the sculptural side of Antonio Pineda's work, the quality that established him as the central modernist of the Taxco silver tradition. Rather than treating the band as a neutral support, Pineda modeled the silver itself into a moving form, integrating stone and metal as a single designed object.
An oval moonstone cabochon is set within a swirling silver mounting. The fluid swirl of the metal contrasts with the smooth, luminous surface of the stone, so the rigid geometry of the cabochon is offset by the organic motion of the setting around it. This pairing of sculptural metal with a single cool stone is characteristic of how Pineda built his rings.
The ring carries Pineda's Antonio crown hallmark with the 970 silver standard and is marked Hecho en Mexico. It is recorded in Gobi Stromberg's Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda (2008), p. 154, plate 212.
