Curatorial note

A silver blade paired with a rosewood handle, scaled down for a child, this knife brought the workshop's signature material pairing into a smaller, domestic object. It belongs to the first design period of the Taller de las Delicias, the workshop Spratling founded in 1931.

The combination of rosewood and silver is a recurring Spratling device, the warm wood balanced against the worked metal, here applied to a child's place setting. Even a modest object like this carries the workshop's attention to material contrast.

First-period flatware of this kind is collected alongside Spratling's jewelry, and a child's knife in rosewood and silver is a charming and uncommon example of the workshop's table silver.
