The Disco serving spoon takes its name from the disc that crowns or accents the handle, a small geometric flourish on an otherwise clean utilitarian form. The disc is the kind of distilled, abstract element Spratling favored, giving a serving piece a quiet modernity.
Hand-wrought in Taxco like the rest of his flatware program, the spoon belongs to a body of table silver Spratling produced alongside his better-known jewelry (Morrill, p. 251). It is recorded in the Cederwall and Riney Spratling Silver.
The design has been reissued, which keeps the pattern in circulation but makes period examples the ones collectors pursue.
