Curatorial note

This serving spoon comes from the part of Héctor Aguilar's practice that is easy to overlook and central to his reputation: the functional silver made for the table. From the founding of his Taller Borda in Taxco in 1939, Aguilar treated flatware and holloware with the same seriousness as jewelry, and a serving piece like this is where his preference for usable, handwrought design is most directly felt.

The spoon is conceived for service rather than display. A generous bowl and a clean handle in solid silver carry no applied decoration, relying instead on balance and the soft finish of hand-raised metal. That economy of means is the through-line of Taller Borda's domestic output.

Serving pieces from Aguilar's workshop reach the market only from time to time, and they are valued now both as working silver and as part of the broader story of the Taxco school.
