Curatorial note

An elongated ribbon-link necklace, hung with cascabels and three long amethyst teardrops, sets the soft jingle of silver bells against the cool color of the stones. Cascabels, the small round Mexican bells, are a recurring Spratling element that ties his jewelry to regional tradition.

The ribbon links give the necklace a fluid drape, while the three teardrop amethysts provide the focal accents. Spratling also designed matching earrings to the amethyst drops, evidence of a coordinated suite built around the same stones. Amethyst recurs across his First Period jewelry.

Necklaces combining cascabels with elongated amethyst teardrops come to market only occasionally, and the matching-earring relationship marks this as part of a considered set.
