Curatorial note

Worked in copper rather than silver, this pitcher carries a tall strap handle and an elongated, drawn-out lip, the proportions exaggerated for line as much as for pouring. The same design was also executed in tin, a reminder that the Spratling workshop treated form as something to be realized across several humble metals, not silver alone.

Copper holloware sits within the broader output of Spratling's Taxco workshop, which produced household objects alongside the jewelry that made the maker's name. The hand-raised body and applied handle reflect the workshop's reliance on hand fabrication.

The pitcher is recorded in Goddard's Spratling Silver: A Field Guide. Copper examples survive in far smaller numbers than the silver work.
