Amethyst, with its violet color, was one of the stones most closely tied to the Taxco school, and an amethyst necklace by Los Castillo puts that stone front and center. The silver is the carrier; the color of the stone is the point.
Los Castillo, founded in Taxco in 1939, set amethyst into its jewelry as a matter of course, treating native and semiprecious stone as subject rather than accent (Morrill, p. 166). The necklace concentrates that violet around the throat.
Amethyst necklaces by the workshop are seen at market with some regularity.
