Stone inlay is the technique most identified with Los Castillo, and a necklace built around it puts the workshop's signature on display: stone set flush into metal so the design is read in color and material rather than in applied gems. The inlay is the drawing.
The technique grew out of the stone-mosaic tradition developed at Los Castillo, often drawing on Pre-Columbian and Mexican sources (Morrill, p. 206). A necklace gives the inlay a long, continuous field to work across.
Inlaid necklaces by the workshop remain the form most associated with the taller's reputation.
