Design number 5100 is among the lower numbers in Margot de Taxco's inventory of necklaces, and because her numbering generally rises over time, the small number suggests a comparatively early place in her sequence of production (Morrill, pp. 15, 168). The number stamped on the back is how her workshop identified the model.
Margot designed everything her company produced and codified each piece in a written book of instructions specifying dies, enamel color choices, and assembly, her drawings serving as templates for the enamelers (Morrill, p. 168). An enamel-on-sterling necklace is the realized form of that system.
Surviving examples carry the color and precise silverwork that defined her enamel line.
