Curatorial note

Design 5210 belongs to the enamel necklace line that Margot de Taxco sustained as a defining practice across nearly four decades of production. Her registered design numbers are not merely catalog entries but evidence of working discipline — each integer signifies a composition she resolved, committed to production, and stood behind as a consistent creative statement. Sterling silver and enamel was the material pairing she made central to that practice, producing a body of work Morrill describes as "glittering displays of color, texture, and technical perfection" (Morrill 1994, p. 166).

The visual vocabulary Margot brought to her enamel necklaces drew from several directions simultaneously. Morrill documents her engagement with Japanese art, Pre-Columbian motifs, and the curving forms of Parisian Art Nouveau, alongside the structural clarity of the international Art Deco style, and notes that both registers appear throughout her jewelry (Morrill 1994, p. 168). This breadth of reference, filtered through the technical resources of her own taller, gives her numbered pieces a particular coherence: each one a resolved statement within a wider design program rather than a one-off object.

A documented numbered piece is a primary anchor for the form.
