Design 5346 belongs to the enamel necklace line that became a signature output of the Taxco workshop Margot van Voorhies Carr established after leaving Los Castillo: vitreous color on sterling, issued under a numbered design system that organized her studio's production from the moment she struck out independently.
Morrill & Berk document that Margot drew from a wide range of sources — Japanese decorative arts, the geometry of Art Deco, Pre-Columbian surface ornament, and the curling organic forms of Parisian Art Nouveau — and that her extensive library and trained eye for adaptable motifs shaped everything that left her shop (Mexican Silver, 1994, p. 168). The result, across her necklace line, was what the authors called "glittering displays of color, texture, and technical perfection" (ibid., p. 166).
The numbered design makes this necklace precisely traceable within the studio's output — a useful quality for serious collectors of mid-century Taxco silver.
