A pin in coral and jade carries the signature of Matl, the workshop founded by Matilde Poulat, whose work pulled Mexican folk and pre-Hispanic decorative traditions into the silver jewelry of Taxco. Where much of the Taxco school leaned modernist, Matl's idiom stayed ornamental and devotional, built on dense repoussé silverwork and the bright stones the workshop favored.
