Dove Pendant Necklace with Turquoise and Amethyst

The dove returns here in full color, worked in silver and set with turquoise, amethyst, and coral, the MATL workshop's signature motif joined to its full polychrome palette across the front of a necklace. The combination brings together everything the mark is known for.

Morrill names the dove, with flowers and tiny bells, as a recurring subject central to Matilde Poulat's design language and kin to the whimsical imagery of Mexican folk art (Morrill, p. 216). The three set stones reflect the workshop's colored-stone craft, a skill Ricardo Salas perfected alongside his aunt as he carved coral, turquoise, and other materials (Morrill, p. 216).

Poulat introduced the "MATL" mark in 1934 as part of the post-Revolution search for a Mexican aesthetic rooted in folk and Pre-Conquest sources (Morrill, p. 216).
