Built as a collar to sit against the neck, this turquoise-set silver necklace shows the Matl workshop scaling its stone-and-silver vocabulary to a more architectural form. The pairing of worked silver with inlaid color is rooted in Matilde Poulat's post-Revolution embrace of a Mexican aesthetic drawn from Pre-Conquest and pueblo sources (Morrill, p. 216).
The turquoise reflects the taller's hand craft, where Ricardo Salas perfected the carving and setting of turquoise, coral, and other stones for the firm's jewelry (Morrill, p. 216).
