Chunky, hinged sterling links carry an oversized chevron motif set with crescent shapes of onyx, giving this bracelet a bold graphic rhythm of zigzag silver against dark stone. It is recorded in Gobi Stromberg's Silver Seduction (p. 152, plate 206), fixing its place among Antonio Pineda's documented designs.
The pairing of heavy silver and onyx is characteristic of Pineda's mature modernism. He was, in Stromberg's account, a key figure in the silver design forged in Taxco between the 1930s and 1970s, working an innovative approach to metalwork into adornment for the body (Stromberg, p. 15). A hinged chevron bracelet, weighty and architectural, is that sensibility in a wearable form.
Production followed the taller model: Pineda conceived the designs and master smiths executed them in silver, marking their work alongside his crown (Stromberg, p. 81). The bracelet's hallmarks, including "Hecho en Mexico," the 970 mark, and the Eagle 17, are the standard components of his output, the 970 indicating a purity above ordinary sterling.
For a collector, a documented, plate-illustrated chevron-link bracelet in silver and onyx is Pineda at his most boldly geometric.
