The wide handle of this silver creamer is a pierced band set with applied discs, while a disc on each side of the body is outlined and emphasized by vertical incised lines.
The applied silver disc, set off by incised framing, was a recurring Spratling device; Morrill records the silver dot as a motif he used extensively for its play of brightness and texture (Morrill, p. 73). The piercing and incising are hand techniques the workshop named precisely, calar for piercing and cincelar for the incised line (Morrill, pdf p. 15).
The creamer is holloware made by the workshop's hand methods. It is recorded in Phyllis M. Goddard's Spratling Silver: A Field Guide.
