Curatorial note

Bulbous in body, with an applied flower on each of three sides and a strap handle finished in ribbon loops, this pitcher is Spratling holloware at its most generous: the rounded body hand-raised, the floral appliques and looped handle softening an otherwise plain form. That the design was later reissued speaks to its enduring appeal.

Pitchers were a documented staple of his table silver, included in the 1965 McNay exhibition inventory of his work (Morrill, p. 77). The reissue fits the pattern by which Sucesores de William Spratling continues to produce his designs hand-wrought to the original techniques (Morrill, p. 251).

The pitcher is recorded in Penny Morrill's Maestros de Plata.
